The Anatomy of a 200 Dollar Commission

"Hey Dufus, this is your referral Jimmy! I signed up with you in this
stupid program and, I've been promoting it like crazy for six weeks
now, I get a few signups and Nobody is doing anything. This is such
a scam! ...I QUIT!"

If you have been involved in Internet Marketing for any length of time, you have undoubtedly had to deal with some unruly affiliates who have an unrealistic sense of what it takes to succeed with affiliate business or online marketing in general.

Forget the hype. Forget the hoopla. Forget the pie-in-the-sky.

In the chronology below I have displayed a realistic expectation of what could happen to you if you are persistent and keep your focus on the one thing that matters - filling your funnel (i.e. building your list).

Everything below is real except I changed the name of my referral to protect their identity.

Jodie signed up with me as a free associate and immediately started receiving followup messages from the company and also from me directly. After a few weeks it would have been easy to give up and assume that I was probably not going to be making any money from Jodie.

Eventually Jodie did email me a question about our advertising options. My response was probably not what was expected. Rather than push in one direction or another, I gave a whole new perspective and let Jodie decide which was the best option.

A few more days went by where nothing happened and, once again, it would have been easy to assume that was the end of it. But sure enough, Jodie contemplated the options and decided to go with the Diamond Rotator ad pack. No doubt Jodie was surprised to find out that one little purchase would lead to a nice discount on the upgrade to Silver Dealer.

Another month went by and Jodie hadn't taken advantage of the discount offer. Once again, it would have been easy to assume that Jodie had moved on. But that wasn't the case at all. Jodie was methodical and practical and wasn't going to be swayed into making any hasty decisions. (By the way, this is my favorite kind of referral.)

Jodie had already eluded to me that the upgrade was too expensive and the tools included were not needed. Considering this knowledge, and the fact that we had just come through the holidays, I had no reason to raise my expectations. But Jodie had other ideas. Jodie was dissecting the program and realizing that there was more value in it than most people would see at first glance.

In the middle of January Jodie decided to go ahead and upgrade to Silver Dealer. Eventually Jodie realized how much easier life would be, and how much money could be saved, by getting so many marketing tools from one source.

Sometimes people will upgrade for one month just to take advantage of the big discount (mentioned earlier) or the massive bonuses offered in the Live Business Center to people who are upgrading for the first time. Being 'cautiously optimistic' (or pessimistic, as others might call it) I wasn't going to hold my breath waiting for a renewal next month. Once again, Jodie would defy the odds.

After renewing in February, Jodie was beginning to realize that this was the best system to build a strong and profitable online business  The tools, training, traffic and resources were all proven over the test of time and they were all essential to growing a successful business. With this in mind, and without any pressure or provocation on my part, Jodie came to the obvious conclusion to save money by choosing the annual upgrade in March of 2020.

As it turns out, Jodie is what I like to refer to as an "Honest Skeptic" - which simply means that Jodie was willing to invest some time and effort to investigate a program fully instead of jumping to quick conclusions.

Take the time to think about what you want to accomplish and make good decisions to help get there.

In conclusion... I challenge you to be like Jodie ...and not like Jimmy.

What Is Your Vision For 2020

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”

- Helen Keller

Since I am starting this blog on New Year's Eve 2020, I thought I would first invite you to look into the future and develop a vision for 2020.

As we know, 20/20 is considered "perfect vision" in the eye-care world. Of course nothing in life is perfect, especially when we try and predict or anticipate the future. However, we do owe it to ourselves to take some time to plan for the future. The more planning we do, the clearer our vision will be.

Taking stock is the first order of business.

  • Where are we now?
  • How did we get here?

Although our past does not dictate our future, understanding those two questions can be opportunities for learning and understanding. Surely there are things from our past that we definitely don't want to repeat. Equally, there are things from our past that we can gladly carry forward.

"Look inside yourself. You are more than what you have become"

- The Lion King

Acquiring a good understanding of our strengths and weaknesses is important in evaluating our current state but they should not limit you as you move forward. Use these built up qualities and characteristics as a launch pad for your future.

In order to improve we must first understand that we have not lived up to our potential and that we have room to improve. Although that statement may seem negative on the surface, it is the alternative that would be more negative. To believe that you have already lived up to your potential would mean 'this is as good as it gets' and life will never get any better. A sad state that would be indeed.

Looking Ahead...

I challenge you to create a big vision for your future. Be bold. Be audacious. Set no limits. Let your imagination run wild.

“The best way to predict your future is to create it.”

- Abraham Lincoln

If your plan is to make improvements in your life, you're going to be challenged from every conceivable angle so you might as well set goals that are worthy of the effort.

If you shoot for the stars, you may land on the moon. That would not be a failure by any standard. It simply means that you are well on your way to reaching the stars. Alternatively, if your only goal is to reach for the tree tops, you aren't ever going to reach the moon and reaching the stars would be inconceivable.

Make A Plan And Act

Having a dream is great. In fact it's essential to success. The dream must be our constant focus. Everything we do must move us in the direction of our dream. But, in order to 'do' something, the dream is not much help.

"I discovered at an early age that I missed 100% of the shots I didn't take."

- Wayne Gretzky

The dream must be broken down into a plan. The plan broken down to tasks. Each plan and task needs to have it's own goals, timetable and set of actionable steps to make the dream possible.

A dream without a plan is just a wish.

Stop wishing your life away.

I am not even going to 'wish' you a happy new year...

Have yourself a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
